Welcome to Toms River - beach scene with cartoon duck head

Welcome to Toms River!

Toms River Township has the pleasure of hosting the NJ Clean Communities 2017 Environmental Student Exchange. We are very excited to show children from around our beautiful State of New Jersey what Toms River has to offer. Our starting location will be Ortley Beach where we will host a beach cleanup. Ortley Beach has a long history from the American Indians and pirates to today’s sunbathers and fishermen.

After our beach cleanup, we will head to Cattus Island Park for lunch and an environmental scavenger hunt. Cattus Island also has a rich history. In 1758, it was farmed with sheep, flax and corn crops. During the American Revolutionary War, local residents used the area to bring captured British vessels into the Toms River in order to offload their cargoes. In the 1800s, a saw mill and a ship port were housed on the property, before becoming a hunting and fishing resort in 1895.

We look forward to your visit. We hope it is enjoyable and makes you want to visit us again!

Very sincerely yours,

Tom (The Duck!)
